A Thousand Stonewalls

In A Thousand Stonewalls, an ensemble (of anywhere from 10 to 50 performers) attempts to stage the events of the first night of the Stonewall riots using historical accounts from eyewitnesses. Much like a riot, however, history gets messy. The many contradictory accounts of that night—from reporters, future LGBTQ trailblazers, the NYPD, and names overlooked by history—probe what we’ve centered in our retelling of the Stonewall riots, who and what we’ve left out of Stonewall’s mythology, and our relationship to resistance in politically frightening times.

RSVP to the A Thousand Stonewalls Salon Series

Join playwright Lee LeBreton for a reading and discussion series exploring the history of the Stonewall riots. Drop by to read eyewitness accounts from Stonewall's participants and observers (as presented in A Thousand Stonewalls) and take part in an open discussion on the accounts' contexts, contradictions, our personal resonances, counterpoints, frustrations, and questions. This salon welcomes queer history enthusiasts, theatre-makers, and anyone with a relationship to Stonewall's complex mythology.
